Head’s Up: Week 24

desigirl | May 29, 2008

For the first time today, since I found I was preggers, I met my midwife. I know this admission caused some fainting spells and some loud shrieks in some quarters but that’s the way things are done in merrie England. Got some scans done in March and early May, when I was informed of a possible-missing-vessel situation.

Googling this was the worst thing I could have done. It did nothing but scare the pants off me. So when I finally saw the midwife today, I asked her for her two-bits and she pooh-poohed my fears. Then she put the trumpet on my tummy and we could hear a super-fast whump, whump, whump! I thought P would be astounded but as usual, after the first whump, he had started his monologue on that subject and all he could hear was his own voice intoning about nothing in particular.

Last time, I loved these sessions of listening to P’s heartbeats. This time, the fascination was taking him along and see his reaction. Time I started enjoying the baby for the baby’s sake!

So, so far, so good - touchwood. Thank you to all my fans! :D

Oh my goodness, you only just saw your midwife at 24 weeks! I’m in London and I been seeing my NHS midwife since week 8 and since 12 weeks every 2 weeks - my two other pregnant colleagues at work also saw their midwives much earlier than 12 weeks and then regularly every few weeks thereafter. All our pregnancies have been uncomplicated. That is appalling of your hospital and not typical of all UK experiences.

But what a relief all was well with DesiBaby :-) So relieved for you! 24 weeks is another major milestone!

Well this wasn't the case with my previous pregnancy too,

Well this wasn’t the case with my previous pregnancy too, Planethalder, despite moving from Barking to Ilford and changing surgeries etc. Now you know why I am advised to get DIY: Delivery books from the library and bone up on that!!

So when's your next visit? And what about the sex-scan??

Poppy: Next midwife visit is in 3 weeks and we don't

Poppy:
Next midwife visit is in 3 weeks and we don’t have a sep sex scan as such. But as I have the scan in week 32 to check the vessel situ, we aim to ask the sonographer then. Let’s hope the baby behaves and we can actually see the, er, relevant bits!!!

Hope the baby is doing well DG. hope the next

I saw my widwife on my 10th week IIRC. all others I know had similar experience as mine or before 10th week (8th week for some). in some counties midwives do home visits, they told me.

take care. hope the baby is ok. do keep us posted.
