Bhutto Assasinated

desigirl | December 28, 2007

In the midst of my cramming, I tried to process the news of Benazir Bhutto’s assassination. Couldn’t. Too many questions in my mind to find a sensible strain of thought. Amrita, of course, has written a proper post on it.

When will we stop trying to find newer depths to sink into?

A Tribute to Tendulkar

desigirl | December 26, 2007

Peter Roebuck’s brilliantly written article on Tendulkar the truest of three rare cricketing treasures - cannot put it better! Oh how I rue the day Sachin retires.

Boxing Day

desigirl |

I know I ‘declared’ a blog holiday but this post was prompted by my little man. The first thing he uttered when he woke up this morning was ‘Happy Boxing Day’, followed swiftly by the ubiquitous ‘what is Boxing Day?’

I was ashamed to admit I did not know. But the truth was, I hadn’t a clue. While I kidded ‘this is the day we box’ and proceeded to have a jokey ‘boxing’ session with him, the question remained in my mind. So we decided to make a game of it and played ‘Let’s Google For It!’. According to my trusty Google search, the day after Christmas Day is known as ‘Boxing Day’ in UK and the rest of the commonwealth because:

“it was the day when people would give a present or Christmas box to those who had worked for them throughout the year.” (Wikipedia)

Check out Elaine’s Boxing day page to know more about the day and its age-old customs.

Happy Holidays!

Seasons greetings & Blog Holiday

desigirl | December 24, 2007

I would like to wish all of my readers a very Merry Christmas and a marvellously happy new year. Have a fantastic year ahead. I would also like to declare a few days off - I really need to knuckle down and concentrate on my coursework and exam. I shall be back (unf for some!) on Jan 10, 2008, once I bid adieu to my exams. Till then, be good!

It’s Christmas Time: Nativity Play

desigirl | December 20, 2007

P’s school had the Nativity plays performances this week. Last year he was a narrator and had lines to say. This year, he was cast as a shepherd and didn’t have much to do other than walk about and sleep (or so he claimed). I was convinced he was going to be draped in old curtains with a pot holder on his head and the reality wasn’t too far off!

Having no lines to say, the ‘actors’ kept fidgeting away but none more so than my child. Everytime I tried to zoom in without the Headteacher finding out, he was either yawning or picking his nose! Also I was late going in so couldn’t get a nice spot from where I could hide the camera and film the proceedings. S had to be satisfied with just a few pix and couple of dodgy videos. Here’s one for your viewing pleasure.
